Bobby Duthie

Retired

Bobby is a third generation Durangoan, whose Father, Bob Duthie Sr., began practicing law in Durango in 1950.  Bob Sr. joined attorneys Fred and Al Emigh in early 1970, joining an Emigh family firm that traces its roots back to the early 1900’s. It is suspected that the firm passed on by Bob Sr. to Bobby Duthie has ties dating as far back as 1891--1920, making it one of the oldest law firms in the four corners.  After many years practicing with his father, and Harry Tate, and then as a solo practitioner, Bobby formed Duthie Savastano Brungard PLLC in 2015 along with his partners, Anthony Savastano (the grandson of Bob Sr. and nephew of Bobby) and Ryan Brungard. Since its inception, DSB, PLLC has served as a very successful legal team representing its clients throughout the Southwest and Colorado.

Bobby graduated from Durango High School in 1970, and, again following in the footsteps of his father, served in the U.S. Navy until he was honorably discharged in 1973. Thereafter, Bobby received his B.A. from University of Colorado in English Literature (1976), his M.B.A. in Finance/Marketing from University of Colorado (1979), and his J.D. from University of Tulsa (1981). During Bobby’s lengthy career, he has distinguished himself through his professionalism, ethics, and capability. During his 41 year legal career he has specialized in criminal defense, personal injury, insurance defense, and has emphasized a very broad Trial Practice in all Courts.  Most recently he has represented members of law enforcement in officer involved shootings and was also lead co-counsel in the “416 Fire” litigation representing approximately 53 plaintiffs seeking property and personal damages.  Since the beginning of his career, Bobby has continually practiced in Federal Courts, and has also been engaged by the Navajo Nation to pursue a civil rights lawsuit against a Farmington Police officer that shot and killed a young Navajo.  Bobby and his partners have recovered millions of dollars for injured clients throughout their years together and are sincere in their pursuit of justice for each of their clients.

Bobby is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, the Southwestern Colorado Bar Association, and the U.S. District of Colorado.  He has been CJA panelist defending clients with major crimes in the Federal arena for decades. He has been very active on various nominating committees for Southwest judges, as well as for Federal Magistrate Judges. Bobby is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), a Super Lawyer, a top 100 personal injury attorney, and the recipient of various other lawyer awards of distinction. He is a very strong advocate of giving back to Durango and the Southwest and has always volunteered his time and energy to many local organizations including the Hillcrest Golf Club, the Southwest Safehouse, the Durango Arts Center, the Southwest Community Foundation, Fort Lewis College, and many other organizations and individuals that need legal and/or community representation.

Bobby’s proudest achievement has been working with his partners, Anthony Savastano, and Ryan Brungard, his legal assistant Kathleen Costello, and staff to provide a legal team that continues the long-standing history of stewardship and counsel to Durango, the Southwest, and Colorado with solid legal advice and leadership.

In his free time, Bobby and his wife, Lana, love to travel and spend time with their many friends and family (Papi to his five grandchildren).  Bobby remains an avid skier, golfer, cyclist, pool player and any game that requires mental focus and competition.
